Prepare yourself for an unforgettable day of exploration in Marechal Deodoro, the first capital of Alagoas. This free tour is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the history, culture, and natural beauty of a city that preserves the charm of colonial Brazil.
What Does the Tour Offer?
The adventure begins at the famous Praia do Francês, departing at 2 PM. A comfortable ride takes you directly to the Historic Center of Marechal Deodoro, passing through stunning landmarks such as Largo de Taperaguá, the city’s zero point, and the scenic lagoon shore of Lagoa Manguaba.
Upon arrival, the first stop is the Santa Maria Madalena Convent Complex, where you’ll have 1 hour to explore Santa Maria Madalena Church, the Church of the Third Order of Saint Francis, and the Dom Ranulfo Museum of Sacred Art (optional entry fee of R$10). This location is a deep dive into history and faith, with architectural details that captivate all visitors.
Next, a short walk leads to the Museum of Marechal Deodoro’s House, where a 20-minute guided tour reveals the life and achievements of the Proclaimer of the Republic and Brazil’s first president.
The tour also includes a visit to the charming Lace and Embroidery Market, perfect for experiencing local craftsmanship and taking home unique souvenirs.
Back on the bus, the panoramic tour covers other iconic landmarks in the Historic Center, such as the Provincial Palace (current City Hall), the House of Chamber and Jail, and the churches of Our Lady of Conception, Our Lady of the Rosary of the Blacks, and the Carmo Complex. Every stop is a lesson in history and an invitation to admire.
The tour ends with a return to Praia do Francês, scheduled between 5:30 PM and 6 PM, depending on the group’s pace.
Important Tips for the Tour
Proper Attire: Access to churches requires respectful clothing. Beachwear, transparent clothes, short shorts, and bare midriffs are not allowed.
Arrive Early: We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early at the meeting point to secure your spot.
Cash on Hand: If you plan to visit the Sacred Art Museum or buy items at the Lace and Embroidery Market, bring cash for convenience.
